Lawmakers Seek Full Compliance on Air Carrier Disclosure

The Department of Transportation has been called on to fully enforce aviation safety reforms. Transparency is critical to the airline system, and the public feels that there should be serious repercussions if the required information is not provided.

Airline Safety Bill

In August 2010, the Congress passed a new Airline Safety Bill – The Airline Safety and Federal Aviation Administration Extension Act of 2010 in response to a fatal commuter airline crash in New York in 2009. The Bill instills safety measures to be adopted by all U.S. airlines. The revisions and toughened rules apply to airlines hiring experienced pilots and places responsibility of continued pilot training on the airlines.

Tickets Sold for Air Transportation to Disclose Air Carriers Operating Flights

It shall be deemed as unfair or deceptive practice for any ticket agent, air carrier, foreign air carrier, or other person offering to sell tickets for air transportation on a flight of an air carrier to fail to disclose, whether verbally in oral communication or in writing, prior to the purchase of a ticket.

The reforms in the bill are long-overdue and are built on the previous law specifically citing carrier information “shall be provided on the first display of the Web site following a search of a requested itinerary in a format that is easily visible to a viewer.”
